a five piece order

The StewKids order

One brief, five little characters, each with its own personality.

StewKids came to us with a wishlist instead of a single piece. Five characters, all different, all meant to live together as a set. This is the kind of order we love, because the little details get to talk to each other.

The lineup

A chef chick with her tiny knife, a cactus in its pot, a succulent, a mushroom, and a shrimp. Five characters, five different jobs. Each one got its own yarn choice and its own finishing, so no two felt like they came off the same line.

We planned them as a group first. Sizes that sit well next to each other, a palette that holds together on a shelf, faces that share a family look without being copies.

The mushroom stole the show

We made the mushroom in our softest mousse yarn, and it came back the best feedback we have ever gotten. Squishy cap, chunky stitches, the kind of thing you keep on your desk and squeeze without thinking about it.

Softness is a material choice, not an accident. For pieces that are meant to be held, we reach for mousse every time.

The shrimp that became a brooch

One piece was never meant to sit on a shelf. We finished the shrimp as a brooch so it could be worn, and it went straight onto a black tee. Wearable crochet is one of our favourite asks, and it is where the character really comes alive.

The mushroom is so soft I cannot stop holding it.
